Dr. Mansoor Husain is a Staff Cardiologist in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at the Toronto General Hospital and in the Nuclear Cardiology Laboratories of the University Health Network in Toronto. He is also Executive Director of the Ted Rogers Centre for Heart Research, and Professor of Medicine, Physiology, and Laboratory Medicine & Pathobiology at the University of Toronto.
Dr. Husain was the gold medallist in Medicine at University of Alberta, completing rotating internship, Internal Medicine, Chief Medical and Cardiology residencies at St. Michael’s Hospital and Toronto General Hospital, and then the Joint Program in Nuclear Medicine at Harvard Medical School, while also completing a 4-year postdoctoral research fellowship in the Program of Excellence in Cardiovascular Biology at MIT.
Dr. Husain has held CIHR Clinician Scientist- and HSF Career Investigator Awards, a Premier’s Research Excellence Award, and uninterrupted peer-reviewed operating grants over his career. He has been recognized with the William Goldie-, Allan Bruce Robertson-, and Eaton Scholar-Awards from the University of Toronto.
Dr. Husain’s research aims to identify therapeutic targets involved in the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease. His bench-to-clinical trials approach has improved our understanding of the cardiovascular mechanisms of action of glucagon-like peptide-1 [GLP-1] and related diabetes drugs.
