Medical Student
London Health Sciences Centre, Canada
My name is Venkat Vaibhav, and I am a second-year medical student at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University. I completed my undergraduate degree in Physiology and a Master’s in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Western. My graduate research focused on inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer, where I explored mechanisms of disease progression and potential therapeutic approaches. This training provided me with a strong foundation in research methodology and fostered my commitment to evidence-informed clinical practice.
Since entering medical school, I have pursued research in cardiovascular medicine with a focus on Internal Medicine and cardiology. My publications span topics including heart failure, cardiac sarcoidosis, and vascular inflammation in people living with HIV. These projects reflect my broader interest in the intersection of clinical research and patient care, particularly in managing complex and chronic diseases.
Beyond academics, I am passionate about community service and leadership. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I founded the Good Neighbour Project, a volunteer-driven initiative that provided groceries and essential deliveries to vulnerable populations across Ontario. This experience reinforced my appreciation for teamwork, systems improvement, and equity in health care delivery — values that continue to shape my approach to medicine.
At the Canadian Cardiovascular Congress, I am eager to share my work, connect with colleagues and mentors, and learn from the latest advances in cardiovascular care and research.
