Arya is a fourth year medical student from The University of British Columbia. Arya grew up in Vancouver and completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at UBC prior to starting medical school. Although early in his career, he is passionate about cardiovascular research, particularly in addressing cardiovascular disease across British Columbia and Canada, where unique factors such as the aging demographic and lifestyle-related health challenges present significant opportunities for impactful work. He is particularly interested in exploring the intersection of cardiovascular health in special populations and preventive strategies, aiming to improve patient outcomes in this diverse and evolving healthcare landscape. Arya conducts his research out of St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver, BC, where he first began working with the cardiology team responsible for providing cardiac clearance for patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) prior to kidney transplantation. During his time there, Arya has investigated the complex relationship between ESRD and cardiovascular disease, with a focus on improving the assessment of pre-transplant cardiac risk. Arya also works with the Cardiac Obstetrics (COB) Clinic at St. Paul's Hospital, where he investigates the impact of many cardiovascular diseases on maternal-cardiac, obsteteric, fetal, and neonatal outcomes.
