Vincent Chan, MD, MPH, FRCSC, FAHA, is Professor of Surgery at the University of Ottawa and a cardiac surgeon at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. His clinical expertise includes complex surgical mitral valve repair, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, and catheter-based therapies for structural valve disease.
Dr. Chan obtained his MD from Queen’s University in 2005 and completed residency training in cardiac surgery at the University of Ottawa, receiving his FRCSC in 2011. He earned a Master of Public Health in Quantitative Methods from the Harvard School of Public Health in 2009. He joined the University of Ottawa in 2012, and was to Professor in 2022.
Dr. Chan’s academic work focuses on the evaluation of therapies for mitral valve disease. He has authored more than 120 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. He has served as principal investigator on several national and international trials and contributed to practice guidelines along with changes in the management of valvular heart disease.
He holds the T.G. Mesana Endowed Team Chair in Heart Valve Disease and has received multiple awards.
Dr. Chan is Vice-Chair of Research in the Department of Surgery at the University of Ottawa, Fellowship Program Director in Cardiac Surgery at the Ottawa Heart Institute, Vice-Chair of the Ontario Medical Association’s Section of Cardiac Surgery and a member of the Board of Directors for the Canadian Cardiovascular Society.
