Dr. Ramana Vaka is an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Alberta. He earned a PhD in Experimental Therapeutics and Pharmacology from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2019 under the supervision of Dr. Babbette LaMarca.
Ramana has previously completed postdoctoral fellowships in clinical pharmacology at the University of Southern California/Allergan (AbbVie), and in cardiac translational research at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (supervision of Dr. Darryl Davis) and the University of Alberta (supervision of Dr. Jason Dyck). His pre- and postdoctoral research has been supported by the American Heart Association and the Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation. Before joining the University of Alberta, he held an instructor role in Pharmacology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Ramana has a broad experience in basic and translational cardiovascular research (heart failure, hypertension during pregnancy, cardiac metabolism, and extracellular vesicles). He has a strong passion for cardiovascular medicine and looks forward to continuing to support cardiovascular trainee professional and career development.
