Genetic Counsellor

Melanie Care, MSc, CCGC, is a Canadian certified genetic counsellor at the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre and Genome Diagnostics Laboratory at the University Health Network (UHN) in Toronto. With more than 25 years of experience in clinical and laboratory genetics, she has been instrumental in developing integrated genetic counselling services for patients and families affected by inherited cardiomyopathy and arrhythmia syndromes.
She has contributed extensively to international initiatives, including the ClinGen Cardiovascular Working Group, where she helped establish evidence-based standards for gene and variant interpretation in inherited cardiac conditions. She has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and is a frequent invited speaker at national and international cardiology and genetics conferences.
In addition to her clinical and research roles, Melanie teaches and supervises graduate students through the University of Toronto’s MSc Genetic Counselling Program. She is also a past president of the Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors (CAGC) and continues to be a strong voice for advancing the role of the genetic counselling profession across Canada.
