Dr. Andrew Shih completed his medical degree at the University of Saskatchewan, Internal Medicine training at Western University, and Hematology and Transfusion Medicine training at McMaster University with a thesis-based master's degree in Health Research Methodology. He is currently the Regional Director of Transfusion Medicine at the Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program and an Associate Professor at McMaster University under the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. His previous practice was as the Regional Medical Leader for Transfusion Medicine Director at the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, and the medical co-director at the BC Provincial Blood Coordinating Office. He is also the current chair of the Canadian National Advisory Committee for Blood and Blood Products and a steering committee member of the Canadian Transfusion Trials Group. Dr. Shih's research interests include promotion and education regarding the safety and appropriate utilization of blood products and cell therapeutics.
