Cardiologist Intensivist

Dr. Alexandra Barriault is a dedicated cardiologist and intensivist based in Quebec City, Canada. She earned her medical degree from Université Laval in 2015 and completed her training in internal medicine in 2018, followed by adult cardiology in 2021, also at Université Laval. Dr. Barriault further enhanced her expertise by completing her critical care medicine training at the University of Calgary in 2023, and she further completed her fellowship with an additional year of training in cardiac rehabilitation in 2024. Currently, she serves as both a practicing intensivist and cardiologist at the Institut universitaire de cardiologie et de pneumologie de Québec, where she plays a vital role in managing critically ill patients.
Her professional journey is marked by extensive training and specialization in advanced techniques such as ECMO and cardiac rehabilitation. Dr. Barriault is also an active contributor to research, focusing on innovative solutions for complex cardiac issues. Her recent work includes pioneering efforts in cardiac rehabilitation for patients with heart failure and exploring neuroprognostication of poor neurological outcomes following cardiac arrest.
As a strong advocate for continuous education and professional development, Dr. Barriault actively participates in academic discourse. She is involved with the CANCARE Society and serves on the planning board of the cardiovascular virtual journal clubs. Beyond her clinical responsibilities, she is deeply committed to mentorship, guiding and teaching the next generation of medical professionals.
