Dr. David Wood is a Professor of Medicine at the University of British Columbia. He founded and is the inaugural Chief Scientific Officer of the Dilawri Cardiovascular Institute (DCI), a $60 million dollar institute with over 200 cardiovascular investigators and staff. Located at Vancouver General Hospital, DCI is comprised of 18 unique cardiovascular centres, including the UBC Faculty of Medicine Centre for Cardiovascular Innovation, an academic research centre founded by Dr. Wood in 2019 with 45 affiliated staff.
Dr. Wood is the Head of the Division of Cardiology at VGH and UBC Hospitals. He is the founder and inaugural course director of Canada’s annual national interventional cardiology and structural heart meeting (CAIC Summit) as well as the international Vancouver Valve meeting, which brings together the best global cardiovascular clinicians and researchers for a 3-day think tank each September in Vancouver, Canada.
Dr. Wood is the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Director and works as a structural and interventional cardiologist at Vancouver General Hospital. He obtained subspecialty training at Lenox Hill Heart and Vascular Institute of New York. His primary research interests include transcatheter management of structural and valvular heart disease, new device development, and novel strategies to improve equitable access to care for all cardiovascular patients. Dr. Wood has participated in over 50 live-cases and 30 first-in-human cases. He has co-authored over 350 publications which have been cited > 9000 times (h-index 62). His work has been cited in all major coronary artery and structural heart disease guidelines.
