Born in Quebec City, Dr. Jean Perron obtained his medical degree from Université Laval in 1988. Following this, he undertook a residency in General Surgery at Université Laval from 1988 to 1993, and subsequently completed a residency in Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at the University of Toronto from 1993 to 1996.
Dr. Perron then pursued advanced fellowship training in Pediatric Congenital Heart Disease at Boston Children’s Hospital in Boston, as well as at the Hôpital Marie-Lannelongue in Paris. Since 1997, he has practiced congenital and pediatric cardiac surgery at the Institut Universitaire de Cardiologie et de Pneumologie de Québec (IUCPQ). In 2009, Dr. Perron transferred the pediatric cardiac surgery program to the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Québec (CHU), where he continues to serve as a pediatric cardiac surgeon.
He has a strong clinical and academic interest in both complex pediatric and adult congenital heart disease, with a particular expertise in the Ross procedure, which he has been performing since 1997. He currently serves as the Director of the Ross Clinic at IUCPQ.
In addition to his surgical and academic contributions, Dr. Perron has held several leadership roles, including Division Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Université Laval, Chief of Service at IUCPQ, and Chief of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at CHU de Québec.
