Tony El-Rabahi is a third-year medical student at Dalhousie University. He was born and raised in Nova Scotia, where he completed both his undergraduate (BSc in Medical Sciences, 2021) and graduate (MSc in Physiology and Biophysics, 2023) degrees at Dalhousie. His graduate research focused on electrical remodelling in pulmonary arterial hypertension.
During his graduate studies, Tony pursued extracurricular clinical research and began volunteering at the IWK Children’s Hospital in the Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery under the supervision of Dr. David Horne, contributing to an RCT titled ULTRA. Since beginning medical school in 2023, Tony has continued working with the ULTRA team to collect data. In addition, he has contributed to a sub-analysis of a prospective study that preceded ULTRA, titled PILOT, which he will be presenting at CCC 2025.
Beyond clinical research, Tony has served as a member of the Dalhousie Medical School Admissions Committee, both as an application scorer and interviewer. As a first-generation Canadian with parents who immigrated from the Middle East, Tony is passionate about representing, motivating, and advocating for visible minorities within his communities. Outside of academics, he enjoys mentoring and tutoring younger students, developing his business, and spending time with his father at their family-owned convenience store.
Tony’s values are deeply rooted in community, service, and compassion. His life experiences and mentors have inspired him to integrate these core principles into his academic journey, shaping his training and guiding his growth as a future physician committed to advancing the standards of patient-centred care.
