Workshop Description: The population of adults with congenital heart disease continues to grow but there remains a significant gap in the number of adult congenital cardiologists to care for them. General cardiologists are often called up on to assess such patients and if the current demographic trends continue will be more involved in their care. This session is specifically aimed at general cardiologists and trainees to expose them to interesting and challenging cases that they are likely to be presented with in clinical practice. The format is interactive and case presentations will be presented by residents of common clinical scenarios encountered in adult congenital heart disease. Each resident will partner with an adult congenital cardiologist who will mentor them through the presentation prior to the session and be at hand to aid them during the session if required. The case presentations will include live polling between presenters and audience using ARS on diagnostic modalities and therapeutic options. A panel of ACHD specialists and congenital cardiac surgeons will discuss different treatment strategies. The aim of this workshop is to discuss ACHD cases that may also be encountered by community cardiologists (i.e. newly diagnosed septal defects in elderly patients, late sequelae of previous repair strategies) and illustrate the rationale for treatment modalities not necessarily covered in detail by the current guidelines.
