Dr. Anique Ducharme is Professor of Medicine at Université de Montréal and holds the Fondation Marcelle et Jean Coutu & Cal and Janine Moisan Chair in Best Practices in Advanced Heart Failure. She is the founder and Director of the Heart Failure Clinic at the Montreal Heart Institute (MHI) and past President of the Canadian Heart Failure Society. She chaired the Canadian Cardiovascular Society (CCS) Annual Congress Scientific Program Committee (2018–2020), where she launched the “3G” policy (gender, geography, generation) and led the pivot to a virtual congress. She has been a member of the CCS Heart Failure Guidelines Committee since 2006 and currently co-chairs the ISHLT group on transplant candidate evaluation. She also directs the Université de Montréal Advanced Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation Fellowship.
Dr. Ducharme is Associate Director of the Canadian Heart Function Alliance, a CIHR-funded national research network. She has authored over 200 peer-reviewed articles (including NEJM, Lancet, Circulation), 16 book chapters, and 300 abstracts, and contributed to steering committees of large-scale trials including HERMES, GUIDE-HF, STICH, AF-CHF, RELAX-HF, and CHARM. She serves as Associate Editor of the International Journal of Cardiology: Heart and Vasculature and reviews for Circulation, JACC, Journal of Cardiac Failure, CMAJ, and CJC.
She graduated in Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (MD, MSc) from Université de Montréal in 1991, completed cardiology residency at MHI (1996), and pursued advanced training in echocardiography, molecular biology, and heart failure at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Since returning to MHI in 1999, she has practiced in non-invasive cardiology with a focus on echocardiography, advanced heart failure, and transplantation. Her research and clinical interests include remodeling, pharmacologic and device therapies, valvular interventions, pulmonary pressure monitoring, mechanical circulatory support, and transplantation.
