Workshop Description: This workshop, led by national experts, will focus on the updated ASE guidelines for prosthetic valve evaluation, offering a comprehensive look at the tools and techniques necessary for effective diagnosis and management. Prosthetic valve assessment can be challenging, requiring clinicians to expand their diagnostic toolbox beyond echocardiography to include multimodal imaging techniques like CT and MRI. Understanding when and how to incorporate these tools will be a central theme of the session.
While echocardiography remains the cornerstone of valve evaluation, this workshop will emphasize the growing role of multimodal imaging in clinical practice. Participants will learn how to select the most appropriate imaging modality based on patient needs, enhancing diagnostic accuracy and clinical decision-making. Additionally, the session will cover the increasing use of transcatheter valve interventions, focusing on pre-procedural planning, intra-procedural monitoring, and post-procedural follow-up. General cardiologists and echocardiographers will gain practical insights into the essential steps for effective valve intervention management.
Recognizing and managing complications associated with prosthetic valves—such as thrombosis, infection, and degeneration—is another key aspect of the workshop. Early identification of these issues can significantly impact patient outcomes, and participants will be equipped with the knowledge to detect and address complications as they arise.
By attending, participants will gain the skills needed to navigate the complexities of prosthetic valve care, from leveraging the latest imaging technologies to recognizing complications and planning interventions. This session will provide valuable, evidence-based strategies for improving patient outcomes and enhancing clinical practice in valve management.
