Workshop Description: As the number of adults living with congenital heart disease continues to grow in Canada—now outnumbering pediatric cases—there is an increasing need to address the unique healthcare challenges of this population. With more than 90% survival to adulthood, the number of individuals post-cardiac repair of congenital heart lesions has significantly risen. Echocardiography remains the most accessible and widely used imaging modality to assess these patients and guide ongoing care.
This workshop will focus on long-term imaging follow-up for three common congenital heart lesions post-surgical repair. It will feature three presentations covering key congenital heart defects, including:
• Tetralogy of Fallot post-repair
• Long-term follow-up of atrial septal defects (both percutaneous and surgical repairs)
• Imaging follow-up for patients post-Ross procedure
As adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) becomes more prevalent, it is increasingly recognized that general cardiologists must gain expertise in imaging this patient population. This session will help build foundational knowledge of congenital heart echocardiographic findings in adults, offering a highly interactive learning experience.
Over the course of 60 minutes, three expert cardiologists from across Canada will present clinical cases for the audience to actively work through. These cases will focus on recognizing key imaging findings in adult congenital heart echocardiography, fostering engagement and audience participation throughout.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be equipped with practical tools and insights for managing adult patients with congenital heart disease, enabling more effective long-term care and follow-up.
