Workshop Description: Cardiogenic shock is a life-threatening condition where impaired heart function leads to inadequate end-organ perfusion. However, cardiogenic shock needs differing considerations depending on etiology, choice of MCS and decision making in general. Furthermore, systems of care processes need to be implemented to transfer patients to MCS centers that can manage these patients appropriately with adequate resources.
This symposium is designed for all health care providers who care for patients in cardiogenic shock, particularly in a critical care setting. We will present a clinical case followed by didactic sessions that will outline the issues pertaining to managing patients with different etiologies of cardiogenic shock. Furthermore, we will discuss the importance of collaborative care between hub and spoke centers in order to outline the importance of timely referral. Finally, we will explore differing management opinions in the form of a debate.
