Workshop Description: Long-term cardiovascular complications following COVID-19 infection may impact an individual's quality of life and health outcomes. COVID-19 infection is associated with increased long term cardiovascular risk. Patients with long-COVID may experience a range of cardiac conditions including myocarditis, pericarditis, arrhythmias, and dysautonomia. In rare instances, mRNA COVID-19 vaccination is associated with myocarditis and/or pericarditis. This workshop will address the management of the chronic cardiovascular consequences of COVID-19 infection and mRNA COVID-19 vaccination in children and adults through a series of clinical vignettes. Early results from the Canadian Cardiovascular Society (CCS) Active Surveillance Study of Myocarditis and/or Pericarditis following mRNA COVID-19 Vaccination (MYCOVACC) as well as benefits and risks associated with mRNA COVID-19 vaccination will also be discussed. Emerging evidence will be critically evaluated to help equip clinicians with knowledge to support patient care and counselling. The session will provide opportunities for questions, discussion, and audience interaction.
